Madelene Hovstadius

Senior Literary Agent | Fiction & Narrative Non-Fiction

Madelene started her BA in English Literature and History at the University of Edinburgh, before transferring to Umeå University to read Swedish literature and history. She then went on to study Comparative Literature and Publishing Studies at the University of Uppsala.

Since 2021 Madelene works as Senior Agent for Fiction and Narrative Non-Fiction. She joined Bonnier Rights as Agency Coordinator in 2017, before becoming Senior Coordinator in early 2019. She was first introduced to Bonnier through an internship at Wahlström & Widstrand, and immediately felt at home.

Madelene represents Swedish authors worldwide, and is the main contact for all co-agents and their respective territories. Madelene has a personal affinity for ‘big think’ non-fiction, women’s fiction, multi-generational sagas, and contemporary fiction by traditionally marginalized voices, but is always interested in finding new authors within all genres of adult fiction and non-illustrated non-fiction written in the Nordic languages.
