Halvdan and Meia. Among slaves and gods
Halvdan and Meia. Among slaves and godsMartin Widmark, illustrated by Mats Vänehem
A Viking adventure and reference book all in one! The author Martin Widmark and archaeologist and illustrator Mats Vänehem take us to the Viking Age’s Uppåkra – the Nordic centre of power and trade a thousand years ago.
Halvdan and Meia are best friends even though they come from rival villages and believe in different Gods. When they arrive in Uppåkra together with Björn the blacksmith, they head off to make their sacrifices at the temple, where they meet a mysterious Völva. Halvdan and Meia soon realise that Uppåkra is changing. Several farms in the area have been burnt down and the temple is going to be demolished. When Halvdan and Meia then meet two boy slaves they find themselves thrown into an adventure. In order to save the brothers from a terrible fate, they make the dangerous journey to the Christian city of Lund where they stumble into a fight between King Tveskägg and his uncle and it looks like they will all be in trouble now.
The meeting between Christianity and influences from the rest of Europe make the Viking Age a dynamic and exciting part of our history.
