Märta and the Runaway Horse

Erika Eklund Wilson, illustrated by Erika Eklund Wilson

Märta and her best friend Maja are headed to the stable to ride Disa — the beautiful Icelandic horse that Maja’s mum helps out with a few times a week. But today, Maja’s mum is ill, and the ride is cancelled. Märta and Maja decide to cycle to the stable anyway. They are only allowed to ride under adult supervision. But maybe they can pet Disa, at least?

When they arrive at the stable, everyone is busy welcoming a group of beginners. No one notices Märta and Maja sneaking into the pasture where Disa is grazing. When Maja suggests that they should take Disa out of the paddock and walk her a little by themselves, Märta is unsure. Even though Disa is the sweetest horse in the world and Maja is quite used to her, don’t they need an adult to come along? What if Disa runs away?

Märta and the Runaway Horse is a new stand-alone volume in the series about Märta — the girl who loves horses but is also a little afraid.
