The Loved One

The Loved One
Mari JungstedtMari Jungstedt is a major Swedish Crime sensation: 15 books published in 17 languages. THE LOVED ONE is the twelfth instalment in her hugely successful Gotland series.
Early one morning in April, a female estate agent is found dead in a ditch on the island of Gotland. The murder is unusually brutal—the victim has been stoned to death, leaving her pulverised face unrecognisable. Whilst alive, her last act was to inspect a centuries-old estate, which was intended to be put on the market after the owner’s recent death. But the heirs disagree over whether to sell or keep the estate, and in the heat of conflict, old family wrongdoings and secrets resurface.
Superintendent Anders Knutas has returned to full-time work after his sick leave. He and Karin Jacobsson are in charge of the investigation, but their love for each other is tested as they are pulled into a tangled web of vindictiveness, jealousy and betrayal. When another murder takes place, the hunt for the killer intensifies – but the murderer remains one step ahead of them.
Gotland’s spectacular scenery, wild weather and the isolation of the island make it the perfect setting for a crime series that plays on the hair-raising feeling that someone is watching you. The series follows Inspector Anders Knutas, who has worked for the Visby police force for thirty years, and his co-worker Karin Jacobsson, a bundle of energy who is strangely secretive about her private life. Knutas and Jacobsson’s investigations take them into the secluded homes and dark secrets of the Gotland citizens they serve to protect.
