The Try-Outs

The Try-Outs
Maths ClaessonIn the first book about Linux we meet a young lad with a great big dream: that one day he will be an astronaut. Author Maths Claesson was one of the founders of the SF bookshop in Stockholm and he knows almost all there is to know about science fiction. The story of Linux is an exciting journey into space and a down-to-earth depiction of childhood in a future Sweden.
Linux Svensson’s greatest dream is to become an astronaut, so every evening he studies the stars and dreams of flying off into space. Far above is Crystal City, one of many of the manned space stations orbiting the earth. Even further away, stars twinkle in the unexplored depths of space. Just imagine that one day you might be piloting a spaceship towards remote galaxies!
Dad is always telling Linux to stop dreaming, and then they argue. Ever since Mum moved to Copenhagen he and Dad have spent most of their time bickering. Things don´t improve when he fails maths. So when the summer holidays start, Linux is sentenced to sit in front of a screen and study all day. Until Linux finds out something that might make his dream come true. There is to be a unique selection process at the theme park in Stockholm. The winner will become Sweden´s first space ambassador and move to Crystal City.
The difficult tests demand strength, speed and endurance. You must know everything about space, think fast and make the right decisions under pressure and… you need to be pretty good at maths…!
