Patrik Svensson is awarded the Piraten Prize 2026 – one of Sweden’s most cherished literary honors.
The Piraten Prize is awarded to “a person active in Sweden who, through their artistic work, has made life more bearable for humanity in a distinctive way.”
In the jury’s words, Patrik is “a literary explorer whose journeys take him from the darkest depths of the sea to the most hidden rooms of the human soul.” Through his writing, readers are reminded of how little we truly know – about mysterious sea creatures, and about ourselves.
The author reached an international audience with his debut The Gospel of Eels, sold in over thirty territories and awarded the August Prize in 2019. Patrik’s subsequent works, including The Blue Marble and The Merciful Killer, have continued to receive critical acclaim, nominations, and major literary awards.
A truly deserving recognition of a singular literary voice that continues to travel widely across languages and borders.
