Marconi Park

Marconi Park
Åke EdwardsonSpring is in the air in Gothenburg, and Erik Winter feels his spirits lift as the days grow longer. But time catches up with him, as it always does. Early one morning, he stands in a dull light under a dull sky, looking down at the body of a man who has died a violent death. A plastic bag has been pulled over the man’s head. On top of the man’s body lies a torn piece of cardboard on which someone has written a capital letter with a broad brush. There are more victims, in Gothenburg and Stockholm, with the same kind of violently drawn notes. While Winter pieces together the notes to make out a word, the police are trying desperately to find a connection between the murders. It is a mystery.
Marconi Park, a residential area in Gothenburg, has lent its name to the twelfth novel featuring Erik Winter. Written by Åke Edwardson, one of the true pioneers of what is known as the Swedish crime fiction miracle.
‘Åke Edwardson has a language that stands out from most of the thriller genre. The dialogue is sharp, the plot is exciting, and I am delighted that he has kept his elegant, edgy detective alive, who gets to use all his intuition and intelligence in this instance.’ Ingalill Mosander, Aftonbladet
‘There is a deeper, slightly sad tone in Åke Edwardson’s language, and in the spaces between, when the hunt itself is taking place elsewhere, both Ringmar and Winter are given space, dragging the baggage of the past behind them. Where feelings and reactions, where the struggle with one’s own torments are given space, the text grows beyond its genre, and that is a good thing.’ GP
‘there are few, if any, who can measure up to Åke Edwardson’s hero. He uses such subtle and elegant means, ingenious stylistic devices and unexpected twists when describing the crisis Erik Winter finds himself in. […] I won’t reveal the hugely entertaining ending. You’ll just have to read it and experience it for yourselves…’ Gefle Dagblad
