A Day of Thirst
Gunnar ArdeliusA young man’s thirst—for alcohol, purpo se, and belonging—draws him into a poli tical machinery he cannot escape.
André is destined for great things in the field of law—on that, everyone agrees. But he is also dangerously in love with intoxication, and his career collapses when, hopelessly drunk at his dissertation party, he manages to insult the entire faculty.
Instead, André is assigned a position as an investigator at a drab government agency, unaware that he is simul taneously being moulded into an informant for a secret organization created by the Social Democratic Party to spy on left-wing groups.
Eager to prove himself, it takes him a while to fully grasp his mission and by then he is already snared in a high-sta ked political game. As his loyalties are put to test, André realises he might not be able to protect the people closest to him while securing his own safety.
A Day of Thirst is a powerful novel about addiction, desi re, and idealism—about political and personal betrayal. It is also a fictionalized account of the scandal that erupted in Sweden in 1973, widely known as the IB affair.
Gunnar Ardelius is known for his poignant portrayals of love and acclaimed YA novels, and for his ability to fuse timeless themes of love, friendship, and loyalty with poli tics and history. A Day of Thirst is his first book with Albert Bonniers Förlag.
