Doreen’s garden is an ordinary garden that has been transformedinto an oasis where rhubarb, gooseberries and apples thrive alongside basil, chilli and peaches. It is a place for relaxation and fun and a place to spend time with friends from all over the world, but it is also the source of a bountiful supply of food.
Growing your own vegetables, berries and fruit has its obvious advantages, but to Doreen and her family it is also a way of life. Why buy expensive pots of scraggy mint when it is so easy to grow the healthy Moroccan variety and why buy tasteless peppers that have been sprayed with pesticides when you can get so many delicious ones from a single seed
Doreen gives us advice on sowing, planting and harvesting, tells us about her successes and shortcomings and shares her favourite recipes with flavours from all over the world, all made using ingredients from her jam-packed pantry.
