Bill Åström, son of former NHL star Mackan ‘Big Mac’ Åström has recently returned home to Sweden and starts to play U12 hockey for Björnbyns IK. Soon it is time for the prestigious live TV Boxing Day match against their arch rivals Stenbackens HC. Suddenly Bill is portrayed in the press and radio as the region’s new star, though he is far from the best player on the team… This has consequences: the star and the trainer of the rival team start harassing Bill and, to make matters worse, his best friend Ludde lets him down.
Later when Mackan, Bill’s coach, and the rest of the village are affected by the tension surrounding the game, everything is turned upside down. Bill feels forced to grit his teeth, prove himself or break down and quit.
Grit Your Teeth! is a book about the incredible pressure that is sometimes put on those who play sports. But most of all it is a book about ice hockey, the rivalry, the friendship, great training sessions, and pucks that fly through the air and land in the net!
