It’s the year 1953 and polio is a raging epidemic. Young Ella-Kristin is called upon to leave her nursing education and instead come to help as an intern at the local hospital. She worries about her soon to be fiancé Carl, who is constantly put to the test in his profession as a doctor, during an especially difficult autumn when many young lives are lost, or changed forever. Ella-Kristin’s and Carl’s engagement is drawing closer, but they are struggling to find time for each other, and is theire engagement dinner really going to turn out as they hope, coming from such different backgrounds?

We also get to know doctor’s wife Nancy Brandh, who mostly enjoys spending her time in front of the mirror or at Dott’s Fashionable Ladies looking for a new dress; Sonja Bengtsson who is a young mother of two with a nasty lump in her chest, Kåre Hjelm who is the Chief M.D at the Epidemics Department, Ulla and Gittan who are attending there last year of high school for girls and spend their afternoons at the coffee shop Atlantic and many, many more.

There Is Still Hope is the first instalment in the Hospital Series, centring around the hospital in the smalll town of Ekstad, a tight knit community filled with all kinds of people, and the joys, as well as the hardships, that are part of all of our lives.
