How Rodrick Became a KnightThe School for Knights Non Fiction 2

Magnus Ljunggren, illustrated by Mats Vänehem

Welcome to a non-fiction adventure in the series The School for Knights. The School for Knights’ teacher Rodrick is back to tell about how he became a knight. Magnus Ljunggren’s fun and catchy text illustrated by Mats Vänehem’s detailed, vivid pictures make this yet another book for anyone interested in knights or those who like excitement and humor.

Rodrick’s story about how he became a knight begins when he was only seven years old. Then he was a service boy, or page, of a wealthy family and had to learn to serve at large parties (and successfully spilled food and drinks to the guests). As a fourteen-year-old, he became a squire and had to learn to wrestle, fight and dress a knight in armor (though it was not always easy to know what was to be in front and what was to be at the rear).

After several years of training Rodrick’s most important moment in an armour’s ife: to be knighted by the King. We will learn about the knight’s liability, of their obligations to the people and to their king. And in the end it is revealed why Rodrick became a teacher!
