Snow Angel

Anna-Karin Palm

Snow Angel is a story of realism and magic, set in Stockholm in the mid 1980’s, more precisely in the winter of 1985-86, just before the assassination of Prime Minister Olof Palme.

It is a time of darkness and secrets, and Hedvig, a young orphan woman, roams the city in search of her sister’s lost German shepherd Billy. The reader meets Hedvig’s neighbours Henning and Elsa, who constantly guard over her and try to protect her. There is also the artist Gabriel, who falls head over heels in love with her, and her friend Aisha and Aisha’s brother, who believes Hedvig to be a true princess. And Axel, the historian who literally falls into the 19th cen-tury every time he meets Hedvig. And of course, the devastated sis-ter, who desperately needs help to find Billy. But what is Billy trying to show them, by showing up and disappearing all over the city, connecting all these people with each other?
