“One evening, a few hours after Stig Claesson had passed away, someone from TT called and told me. I was, of course, aware of how ill he had been and that death was near, and yet we are always just as unprepared when it finally arrives. The reporter from TT asked what Stig had meant to me, how I regarded him as a writer, how I saw him as an artist. I could hardly say anything. When someone you have cared deeply for passes away, you want nothing more than to light a candle in the emptiness the deceased has left behind and then sit quietly by its flickering flame. I know it is too late, as so much almost always is too late, but in this little book I have nevertheless tried to give an answer to those questions.”
