The Last Winter

The Last Winter
Åke EdwardsonIt is December in Gothenburg. A police squad is called to an apartment in Vasastan after an emergency call. They find a man in severe shock. His partner lies dead in the double bed. It is likely that he is the perpetrator. Within a few days, an identical murder occurs: a suffocated woman, her husband beside her, in a beautiful apartment in Vasastan. Despite him denying his involvement, this man is also arrested. Now it’s just a matter of interrogating him to find out the truth. But a young police assistant has seen something in both apartments that she can’t get out of her head. Something that doesn’t add up. Once again, Detective Inspector Erik Winter is confronted with people’s darkest secrets. Nothing is what it seems.
As usual, he tries to understand the meaning of life, but is forced to first try to understand the meaning of death.
It is always present, and here, this last winter, closer to him than ever before. The body of a dead man floats onto his own beach while he throws rocks to his little daughter. There is nowhere left to run.
