We are thrilled to announce that Linnea Axelsson’s powerful work AEDNAN has been longlisted for the prestigious National Book Award for Translated Literature. Aednan is translated into English by Saskia Vogel and published in the US by Knopf.

“Linnea Axelsson’s Ædnan, translated from the Swedish by Saskia Vogel, is an epic that relates the experiences of two Indigenous Sámi families over the course of three generations and one hundred years. Ædnan—a Northern Sámi word that translates to land, ground, or earth, and echoes of mother—weaves together a tale of displacement, cultural erasure, and resistance in the face of colonial oppression.”

Linnea Axelsson (b. 1980) is a celebrated Swedish poet and author, from Porjus, northern Sweden. She studied humanities at Umeå University and received her PhD in Art History in 2009. Her debut novel Tvillingssmycket was published in 2010 and in 2018 her acclaimed epic Ædnan won the prestigious August Prize, Sweden’s most prestigious literary award.

The National Book Award, one of the most prestigious literary honors in the United States, celebrates the best in American literature, including works in translation that have made a significant impact on readers worldwide.

Aednan is originally published in Swedish by Albert Bonniers Förlag.
