The Worms of Carmine Street

Håkan Nesser

The island of Manhattan at the mouth of the Hudson River is probably the most densely populated district in the world. This area is also home to more tales and stories than anywhere else. The Worms of Carmine Street is one of them. It was written during the years when the author Erik Steinbeck was living on that particular street, and it is about the search for a child who has disappeared. But it is also about other things: guilt, loss and existential loneliness – and about being taken in by circumstances over which a person has no control.
