Kerstin Ekman

Kerstin Ekman, born in 1933 in Risinge, Östergötland, made her debut in 1959, as a writer of crime fiction. She was elected to the Swedish Academy in 1978, and left her chair in 1989. Her rich narratives, often rooted in everyday lives, made her one of the most widely read Swedish writers of the twentieth century. She has won many major literary prizes, including the August Prize in 1993 and 2003, and the Pilot Prize in 1995.
